Christmas break

Christmas break is finally here. I'm finish with half of my freshman year at farrington. Out with the old in with the new. Got to think about many things before I go back to school. Not sure how my break or my new semester is going to go but it's okay I like challenges. Hopefully I stay out of trouble, but no promises... TE HE HE!?! I'm just going to keep in mind that I can face anything I set my mind to. All my haters out there you ain't going to faze me. I'm going to try a new way to deal with my haters instead of always wanting to fight with them. We'll see if it will help me or make me want to get into fights even more. TRYING NEW THINGS!!??  I'm excited to have new teachers ( was really getting sick of some of the teachers I had first semester, but I will always miss Ms. Uta'i!!

NEW YEARS RESOLUTION!!
1) Start thinking things true fully
2) Stop worrying so much about what other people think
3) Try staying out of drama and trouble
4) HAVE A GREAT NEW YEAR

Last blog on Samoan Class 1A/1B

This is my last post on Samoan class 1A/1B. I hope to keep blogging and that I be able to go into Samoan 2A/2B. My last blog on Samoan is going to be a letter to my Samoan teacher Ms. Uta'i. So here it goes...

Dear Ms. Uta'i,
I want to start this letter by saying thank you for everything. I wanted to thank you for teaching me everything you have taught me, and creating somewhat of a second family for me at class. I am greatful for meeting you and everyone else in Samoan class. You have done many things for me and everyone in Samoan class, and I truly know that you care about all your students.
You have taught me things that I should have learned when I was young. You taught me about respect, and when/where is the right time to do certain things and when it is not the right time. You taught me about family and how it should be like, and how to behave around elders. You made me realize that I need to open my eyes, and that everyone has their struggles. I learned that their are many people I can turn to, and you are one of them.Ms. Uta'i, you taught me all of that but you also did your job.
I am known as a girl who is supposedly Samoan. Many people know I am not, but you taught me a lot os things about Samoan. I learned how to speak in Samoan a little bit, but I also learned how close Samoan and Hawaiian can be. I learned that even though I take a lot of pride in my Hawaiian culture it doesn't hurt to learn about other cultures. I know that at times I can be quite and shy but I finally found a place where I can be my true self. This class, Samoan class, is my home and I am really sad that my time in this class is coming to and end. Hopefully I can still be in touch with everyone in Samoan class.
This is everything I gained from being in Samoan class. This is a short summary of everything I'm thankful for in Samoan class. Most of all I a, thankful for my teacher Ms. Uta'i.

Sincerely,
Kamalani Kaumaea

Finishing unit 6

So unit 6 was ultimately the hardest unit for me in Samoan class. It was hard because there were parts of fa'afiafiaga that we needed to learn. So our project for this unit was that we had to make up a Samoan dance or performance. My teachers advise a group called Island harmony that I think I mentioned in a blog before hand. Anyways Island harmony had a performance at shriner's hospital to give back to the kids who stay there. Ms. Uta'i decided she wanted her Samoan classes to be apart of this event. That was our project and we had a choice to do it in groups or alone. I'm in Island harmony and me and my sister momi had to make a dance that could represent the Island of  Hawaii. I was pretty much stressing over that dance so I did not want to do any performance on my own. I went in a group with 3 other girls from Samoan class. We decided to dance to a song called "ua mamalu" . It was an exciting up beat song in my opinion but kinda long. Anyways so like we went to shriner's on the 16th of December which was a monday. Me and my sister was up first to represent the island of Hawaii. We danced to the song "Kamalani" which I didn't mind since my name is Kamalani. Then I had to change into my pule tasi for the next performance with my group fir Samoan class. I had no place to change in private so I pretty much improvised which was a little bit hard. That was not the worst part of this performance though. Even more worst my top couldn't fit so I had to suck it in and deal with it. After everyone was done with their performances we caroled with the kids and their families. The finale or taualuga of the performance was two girls from my Samoan class. Their names are heaven and summer and they closed us off with the song my redeemer the Samoan version. Then the family of the kids sang a song to us to thank us for performing for them. Then we all took pictures and headed home. It was an awesome thing to be apart of and I hope I get to do it again.

Samoan class

So this blog is going to be about my first thoughts of Samoan class. The very first time I walked in Samoan class was freshman orientation. Which means everyone I meet in class today are all freshman. There was a couple people I recognized. Two people from the class I had before, and a couple people I went to school with before I reached high school. It was comforting to know that I knew people in the class. Our teacher that day was Ms. Denise Ah Sue. She wasn't our permanent teacher she teaches a higher level of Samoan, but she was filling in till I real teacher could come to class. My first thought was this class would be hard because I am Hawaiian not Samoan. I also thought the teacher would be strict like how I heard teachers are back in Samoa. I was so wrong!!! I realized that Ms. Ah Sue is somewhat of a joker and she likes to make people laugh. I also realized farther down the line that the work for Samoan class wouldn't be as hard as I thought, because my teacher recognized that most of us are beginners of Samoan language and culture. I didn't expect an easy A I knew I had to work for it, and that is what I did for Samoan class. Worked to keep up my grade and build a positive reputation in my class.
